FLORENCE — Four people were stranded in elevators Thursday night when a failed piece of equipment from a transmission line caused a 45-minute power outage throughout downtown Florence.
Phil Stevenson, a spokesman for the city of Florence, said as soon as Florence Utilities officials learned of the failure, they dispatched a truck, and were able to get the problem corrected and power restored.
City officials said the outage, which happened about 9 p.m., affected most of the downtown area and all the way to Cox Creek Parkway.
Florence firefighters were called to Courtview Towers and to LaGrange Hall on the University of North Alabama campus to get people out of stuck elevators.
“We got four people out — three at Courtview and one at UNA,” Florence Fire Battalion Chief Ben Cochran said this morning.
He said none of the people they removed from the elevators were injured.
