Haddock, two new councilmen take office in Florence
By Robert Palmer

FLORENCE — Immediately after being sworn in Monday as mayor, Mickey Haddock told the standing-room-only crowd at City Hall he saw an example this weekend of what he expects from city employees.

Mayor's office employees Sandra Morgan and Martha Murphy were cleaning windows in the City Hall auditorium on their own time in preparation for the 10 a.m. swearing-in ceremony. He said they were not satisfied the room was clean enough for the event.

"I expect that from every employee, OK," Haddock said to a round of laughter from the audience.

On a more serious note, Haddock, who won the August municipal election against three opponents without a runoff, said it has been a goal of his for years to be a servant for the city.

"I want to be a good listener, and I believe the council wants to be good listeners," he said.
