A homeowner decided to take matters into his hands when he returned to his residence and saw evidence that a burglary was taking place.
Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May said when deputies got to the residence at 965 Witt Store Road, they found the homeowner and his brother holding two would-be burglars at gunpoint.
The residence is in the LaGrange community of southern Colbert County, near the Franklin County line.
Jordan Elizabeth Creekmore, 19, Rogersville, and Darius Jermaine Fuqua, 26, Elgin, were taken into custody and each charged with third-degree burglary, May said.
May said the homeowner returned just before 10 a.m. He saw a red Toyota car parked in front of his house and evidence that the front door had been kicked in.
“He got his rifle and then called his brother, who lived nearby,” May said.
May said the brother arrived armed with a .12-gauge shotgun.
“The homeowner said about that time, a woman and man, who they didn’t know, came running from the house, jumped in the car and started to leave,” the sheriff said.
May said when the two started to drive off, either the homeowner or his brother shot out one of the tires to disable the car.
“They then took the couple out of the car and held them at gunpoint until deputies got there,” May said.
He said when deputies arrived, they took the two into custody without incident.
“No items were taken from the house, but there were several items found left on the floor like they had dropped them and then ran out,” May said.
Creekmore and Fuqua are being held in the Colbert County Jail on bail of $5,000 each.
