Man charged with dealing pot
MOULTON — A grand jury indicted a Decatur man after he reportedly sold hydroponic marijuana to an undercover agent in the Hatton community, Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said Tuesday.
Alex Kesly Speake, 31, 2605 Sherwood Oaks Court, Decatur, was arrested by Drug Task Force agents on the indictment charging him with distribution of a controlled substance.
Mitchell said agents began investigating Speake after receiving complaints from residents.
Hydroponic marijuana is a potent form of marijuana because the plant is fertilized with vitamins and nutrients during the growing process, and has a higher street price, Mitchell said.
Speake was being held in Lawrence County Jail on bail of $15,000 bail on the drug charge and without bail on a probation violation from a previous drug conviction, Mitchell said.
Woman charged with selling meds
MOULTON — Narcotics agents arrested a Courtland woman Tuesday for reportedly selling her child’s prescription medication for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said.
Tetsa Ann Cross, 34, of 940 Waters St., Apt. 15, faces two counts of distributing a controlled substance.
Undercover agents bought Vyvanse from Cross twice at her residence, Mitchell said. Vyvanse is the brand name for lisdexamfetamine.
Mitchell said Cross was selling part of the child’s prescription to supplement her income because she is unemployed. The medication was paid for through the
Medicare system, and agents intend to contact the state about possible Medicare fraud, the sheriff said.
Cross was being held in Lawrence County Jail. Her bail had not been set.
