WAYNESBORO, Tenn.

Tennessee man faces arson charges

An Iron City man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that destroyed a hay barn.

Kevin Bart Roberson, 44, 8799 Middle Butler Road, Iron City, has been charged with felony arson, the Wayne County Sheriffs Office said.

The charge is a Class C felony punishable by three to 15 years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

Sheriff Ric Wilson said Roberson is accused of burning a barn near the intersection of Middle Butler and Barnett Branch roads in the Cedar Grove community the night of Aug. 4.

The sheriff said 100 rolls of hay, valued at $70 each, were being stored in the barn.

From all indications, this was done in retaliation, Wilson said. The barn belonged to a man who had recently purchased the property, including the house where Roberson was living, and (Roberson) was being evicted.

Wilson said tips from residents of the community helped provide information in the case.

Roberson was being held Friday in the Wayne County Jail without bond.

WAYNESBORO, Tenn.

Lauderdale woman guilty of meth sales

Authorities said a Lauderdale County woman faces up to 36 years in prison after being found guilty of selling methamphetamine.

Wayne County Sheriff Ric Wilson said it took a Wayne County Circuit Court jury 29 minutes to convict Joanna Brewer, 50, 2534 Lauderdale 8, Florence, on three counts of selling methamphetamine.

The charge is a Class B felony and each count carries a penalty of eight to 12 years in prison.

We had been trying to work cases on her for years, Wilson said. We had been getting information of her but couldnt get enough for a case. Finally, things fell together, and we were able to start tracking her over the course of the last couple of years.

The chief said that during that time, Brewer was moving a lot of methamphetamine. And with the jurys quick work, they were sending a loud and clear message that the people of Wayne County are sick of these drug dealers.

Authorities said Brewer also has pending drug-related cases in Lauderdale County, Ala.

She is scheduled to be sentenced in Wayne County in September. She is being held in the Wayne County Jail on bail totaling $60,000.
