LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. — A man authorities said beat his mother with a vacuum cleaner handle will have a first appearance hearing March 5, officials said Friday.
Dewayne Allen Minor, 35, 594 Big Springs Fork, Lawrenceburg, is charged with aggravated domestic assault, authorities said.
Sheriff’s Capt. Adam Brewer said Minor is accused of attacking his 60-year-old mother Tuesday night at the home where they live.
Brewer said the woman was beaten in the head, but “luckily she wasn’t seriously injured.”
Deputies said the woman reported she was on her bed and talking on the telephone when Minor came home Tuesday night and started attacking her.
Brewer said the reports indicate she did nothing to anger Minor.
Investigators said the woman reported that Minor began yelling and cussing at her when he entered the bedroom. She added her son jumped on the bed and began hitting her in the back, face and other areas of her body.
Brewer said it appears Minor then grabbed the vacuum, took off the top of the vacuum handle and began striking her with it. He said the woman told deputies her son repeatedly threatened to kill her as he was beating her.
Deputies said the woman managed to get away and ran to a neighbor’s house where she called 911.
Minor is being held in the Lawrence County Detention Center on bail totaling $10,000.
