FLORENCE — A local man has been indicted in connection with two burglaries and the sexual assault of a college student, authorities said Wednesday.

Mitchell Blake Terry, 32, 1413 Lauderdale 166, Florence, is indicted on first-degree sexual assault, two counts of third-degree theft of property, two counts of second-degree burglary and five counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.

Florence police detective Sgt. Cliff Billingsley said Terry was arrested Sept. 27.

The arrest is in connection with the home invasion/burglary at Summit Ridge Apartments, which was reported Sept. 17, and the burglary of a residence at Heathrow Apartments on Sept. 21.

In the Summit Ridge burglary, police said Terry is accused of rolling the college student over on her face while she was in bed, pushing her face into the pillow and sexually gratifying himself.

The woman said she was awakened when a man in her bedroom put a hand over her mouth.

“Apparently, he threatened her and told her not to scream,” Billingsley said.

He said the girl’s roommate was in another bedroom.

The police report states the burglar sexually abused the girl, took her purse and left.

Police said investigators saw a black Nissan Maxima while reviewing surveillance video from Summit Ridge and Heathrow apartments.

Reports indicate the black Nissan Maxima was driven past the complex during a community meeting at Heathrow Apartments. Billingsley said patrol officers stopped the vehicle and Terry was taken into custody for questioning.

Investigators added they later learned there were pending charges against Terry involving fraudulent use of a credit card.

Courthouse officials said Terry could be arraigned within the next two months, and the case could go to trial in the fall.

Terry is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on bail totaling $250,000.
