Owens throws no-hitter as Indians beat Panthers

Anna Grace Owens threw a no-hitter for Colbert County as the Indians defeated Mars Hill 2-0 in area softball action Thursday.

Owens recorded 13 strikeouts in blanking the Panthers (12-8, 2-2). Sierra Bond had a run-scoring single for the Indians (11-2).

Mallory Spurlock allowed five hits and struck out eight in taking the loss for Mars Hill.

Colbert Heights 9-11, Tharptown 8-8: Colbert Heights scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Covenant Christian in the first game of a doubleheader.

Kaelyn Holt had a three-run triple to tie the score at 8 and Destinee Pratt singled home the game-winning run. Holt and Kelsey Robinette finished with two hits each to lead the Wildcats. Marly Michael was the winning pitcher.

Robinette had three hits and four RBIs in the second game as Colbert Heights completed the sweep. Courtney Mitchell had a triple and a single, while Pratt hat two singles for Colbert Heights (8-1). Morgan Tedford allowed five hits and struck out seven to earn the win.

Waterloo 19, Covenant Christian 8: Madison Carter finished with six RBIs to lead Waterloo past Covenant Christian in five innings.

Carter hit a home run and also had a pair of doubles. Robin Russell had two hits and five RBIs for the Cougars (7-7). Samantha Crider was the winning pitcher for Waterloo.

West Limestone 5, Rogers 1: Miranda Jones had three hits in a losing effort for Rogers. Lindsey Richardson added two hits for the Pirates.

Hatton 3, Lexington 0: Hillary Carpenter struck out nine and surrendered three hits to seal a shutout over Lexington in Class 2A, Area 15 action.

Carpenter added a pair of hits and drove in all three runs for the top-ranked Hornets (13-3, 4-0).

Belgreen 18, Red Bay 7: Belgreen trailed 7-5 early before exploding for 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to claim a home win over Red Bay.

Bailey Clark earned the win for the Bulldogs (5-2) and also had three hits and six RBIs. Courtney Williams added a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Abbie Hester posted two hits and four stolen bases.

Audrey Goss had two hits and scored twice for Red Bay.

Haleyville 4, Hamilton 1: Holly Ward pitched five hitless innings in relief to earn the win as Haleyville improved to 17-0 on the season.

Callie Pendley, Payten Townsend, and Lacey Burleson each posted two hits for Haleyville.

Lauderdale County 7, Brooks 6: Haley Barclay drove in Taylor Avery in the sixth inning as Lauderdale County clipped Brooks.

Barclay also earned the win for the Tigers (10-4), striking out four in two innings of relief. Kaitlyn Garrett added two hits and two RBIs for LCHS.

Central 9, Wilson 4: Kate Lambert had two hits and drove in three runs as Central went on the road to beat Wilson in Class 4A, Area 16 play.

A four-run fourth inning proved to be the difference for the Wildcats, who improved to 7-6-1 on the season and 3-0 in the area.

Amberlee Carter, Destiney Ingram, and Abbey Keener each had two hits for Central (7-6-1, 3-0 area) and combined for four RBIs, while Bailey Nelson added a pair of singles.

Harlee Murphy had three hits, including a solo home run for Wilson (10-10, 2-1). Brianna Terrell, Madison Daniel, Kayla Gooch, and Hannah Arnett each added two hits.

Deshler 9, Clements 0: Deshler pounded out 15 hits and Bailey Terry pitched a shutout as the Tigers pounded Clements. Lauren Cantrell was 4-for-5 with two doubles and a home run for Deshler, while Mackenzie Roberts and Kat Darnell each had three hits. Hannah Williams added two hits for the Tigers (11-9, 1-2).

Shoals Christian 5, Athens Bible 4: Shoals Christian scored an unearned run in the seventh inning to claim a Class 1A, Area 16 home win.

Kayln Davis posted seven strikeouts to earn the win and added three hits for the Flame.

Lawrence County 9, Muscle Shoals 1: Lawrence County tallied 14 hits to secure the Class 5A, Area 16 win.

Haley Willis and Sarah Cosby had two hits apiece for Muscle Shoals (16-8, 1-2).

Baseball

Mars Hill 6-8, Colbert County 0-0: Mars Hill pitching blanked Colbert County in the doubleheader, as the Panthers rolled past the Indians.

Thomas Burrows earned the win in the opener and also had four RBIs on two hits. Drake Seal also had two hits and two RBIs while J.T. Hudson also had two hits.

Colby Smith kept the shutout streak going, as he picked up the win in the nightcap. Hudson had three hits to lead the Panthers (15-7, 4-0 area).

Brooks 13-11, East Lawrence 3-1: Brady Bedingfield had two hits and three RBIs for Brooks in a first game of a doubleheader sweep of East Lawrence.

Riley Phillips had three hits in the opener for the Lions. Drake Tucker had two hits and two RBIs, while Austin Broadfoot and Skyler Beck also had two hits. Ryan Masonia pitched four innings to earn the win.

Bedingfield, Broadfoot, Beck and Tucker each had two hits in the second game as Brooks (16-5, 2-0 area) completed the sweep.

Lexington 7-6, Wilson 6-12: Paton Grisham singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Lexington rallied past Wilson in the first game of a doubleheader.

Wilson scored five runs in the top of the seventh, but Lexington came back with three in the bottom of the inning to win it. Wade McNutt singled home the tying run for the Bears.

Hunter Putman led Lexington with three hits. Jacob Cole added two hits and two RBIs, with Ryan Howard also collecting two hits for the Golden Bears. Jarrod Mask and Brandon Autry led Wilson with two hits each.

Skylar Murphy had three hits to lead Wilson to the win in the second game. Mask and Drew Barton had two hits each for the Warriors. Grisham and McNutt led Lexington (5-12) with two hits each.

Barton struck out three in five innings to earn the win for Wilson.

Decatur 10, Florence 0: William Fite hit a grand slam in the fourth inning to spark Decatur to a five-inning victory over Florence in the Class 6A, Area 16 opener for both teams.

Liles Hillhouse and Isaac Dillard had the only hits for Florence (7-17, 0-1 area).

Clements 2-0, Lauderdale County 1-10: Adam Berryhill had three hits, including a solo homer and two RBIs to help Lauderdale County earn a split in a doubleheader at Clements.

John Trousdale added a triple and a double for LCHS (5-17). Nathanael McCafferty also had two hits for the Tigers. McCafferty allowed just one hit and struck out two in going all five innings to earn the win.

Clements scored two runs in the bottom of the third and held on to win the opener. Jackson Parker had a run-scoring double for LCHS.

Central 9-4; Shoals Christian 8-5: Caleb McDonald drove in the winning run in the ninth inning as Central outlasted Shoals Christian in the first game of a doubleheader.

McDonald finished with three hits and three RBIs for the Wildcats and Murphy Harrison added three hits. Devin Balentine earned the win in relief.

Tanner Bozeman, Dale Thomas, and Will Bishop each had three hits for Shoals Christian, while Christian Shipe added two hits and three RBIs.

In game two, Shoals Christian sealed it on a Walker Reeves game-winning RBI in the seventh.

Mitchell Boyd went the distance and struck out seven to get the win. Boyd and Shipe each had a pair of hits for the Flame. Justin Pennington posted three hits and two RBIs for Central and Parker Lovelady added two hits.

Deshler 12, Colbert Heights 6: Thomas Milstead had two hits and three RBIs as Deshler rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat Colbert Heights.

J.T. Thompson added two hits for Deshler (17-7). Thompson also threw three hitless innings in relief to get the win.

Phil Campbell 5, Hackleburg 4: Craig Saint hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring Phil Campbell back from an early deficit and defeat Hackleburg.

Dalton Hanby put the Panthers (12-2) up 4-0 with a grand slam in the top of the first inning, before Phil Campbell rallied.

Rogers 12-13; Cornersville, Tenn. 1-1: Raleigh Killen, Russell Young, and Briley Reeves each had three hits and combined to drive in six runs as Rogers pounded Cornersville in the first game of a doubleheader.

Colin Chamblin earned the win for the Pirates, allowing three hits in five scoreless innings.

Austin Boyer went four innings and picked up the win for Rogers (9-16) in game two.

Killen, Young, and Reeves combined for nine hits and five RBIs, while Holden Mitchell added a three-run home run.

Collinwood 10, Cherokee 1: Brier Daniel had three hits and three RBIs as Collinwood downed Cherokee.

Zack Reeves earned the win for the Trojans (6-2) and added two hits and two RBIs. Ben Reagan and Kelly Ray each drove in a pair of runs for Collinwood.

Loretto 11, Columbia Academy 10: Evan Roberts had three hits and three RBIs to lead Loretto to a win over Columbia Academy. Myles Burks also had two hits and two RBIs for the Mustangs (5-3) while Alex Metcalf had two hits. Nick Green was the winning pitcher.

Golf

Lawrence County beats Brooks: Lawrence County Red shot 1-under 143 at Deer Run to cruise to a victory over Brooks.

Martin Little had the best round with a 34, followed by Tyler Hogan at 35. Jesse Childress and Trenton Smith each added a 37 for Lawrence County.

Brooks Black finished at 169. Josh Sanderson led Brooks with a 41. Lawrence County White (179) finished third and Brooks Orange (204) was fourth.

Lauderdale County wins match: Lauderdale County shot a 153 to claim a win over Rogers (190) at Joe Wheeler State Park.

Blake Roberson shot a 34 to pace the Tigers, while Will Datuin shot 36. Holt Barnett led Rogers with a 40.

Lexington defeats Wilson: Zack McBride shot a 40 as Lexington (176) got by Wilson (188) at Blackberry Trail Golf Course.

Lane Smith shot a low-round 39 to lead Wilson.

Russellville Black wins: Will Bragwell shot a two-under 33 as the Russellville Black team combined for a 145 at Twin Pines Country Club.

Aaron Jackson posted a 35 and Hagen Price shot 36 for Russellville.

Brant Bishop and Alec Pennington each shot 36 for Muscle Shoals, while Graham Davis had a 37.

Girls Golf

Muscle Shoals Red wins: Brittany Collins shot a low-round 42 as the Muscle Shoals Red team earned a win.

The Red team shot a 134 to get by Muscle Shoals Black (158).

Playing as individuals, Eddie Price shot a 51 for Colbert Heights and Macy Reeves posted a 57 for Russellville.

Girls soccer

Florence 3, Mars Hill 3: Devin McDonald scored two goals in the second half to help Florence earn a tie with Mars Hill.

The Panthers led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Cheyanne Golden. Florence got the two goals and an assist from McDonald in the second half, along with a goal by Katherine Rylant. Kayla Terry and Olivia Willingham scored for Mars Hill in the second half with Anna Katherine Green and Willingham each recording one assist.

Boys Soccer

Florence 4, Mars Hill 0: Justin Whitten scored three goals to lead Florence to a win over Mars Hill. Whitten and Gabby Sombra each scored a goal in the first half to give the Falcons a 2-0 halftime advantage before Whitten put the game away with two more goals in the second half.

Michael Allen and Adalid Garcia had assists for Florence (4-3-1).
