Parking lot shooting still under investigation
By Tom Smith

SHEFFIELD — Police are continuing to search for a person accused of shooting a Florence man who was riding in a car that was leaving a Sheffield night club early Saturday.

“We have been interviewing several people, trying to piece things together in hopes of coming up with a suspect,” Sheffield police detective Joe Haynes said.

Haynes said no arrests have been made.

Jeremy Doxie, 21, Florence, was shot in the back. He was flown to Huntsville Hospital after the shooting and continues to receive treatment.

Haynes said Doxie is improving.

“I talked with him, and he is up walking around,” Haynes said. “He’s far from over (the shooting), but he is better.”

Haynes said Doxie reported he didn’t see who fired the shot that struck him.

Reports indicate the shooting occurred at 1:25 a.m. in a parking lot across from the Studio 256 club, on South Atlanta Street.

Haynes said Doxie was one of six people in the car at the time.

“It happened in an alley behind the Masonic Lodge, which is adjacent to my property,” said Trelayne Hill, the club’s owner.

Hill said he knew nothing about the shooting until someone came inside and told him.

“I immediately started shutting the club down and getting people out,” he said.

Hill said Doxie had been in the club earlier in the night, but there was no trouble.

“Nothing happened out of the ordinary,” he said.

Haynes said several people were outside the club in the parking lot when the shooting happened.

“We’ve been talking to as many as we can to see what actually happened and try to determine who is responsible,” Haynes said.

Police said the shooting could be the result of an ongoing dispute that escalated outside the business.

“Someone saw something, and we’re trying to find them,” Haynes said. “There are still a lot of questions we need answered.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 256-383-1771 or Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
