Police arrest 35 suspects in prostitution sting

BIRMINGHAM (AP) — Birmingham police say they arrested 35 people, mostly on charges of soliciting prostitution, during a four-day operation aimed at cracking down on prostitution in the city.

Birmingham vice and narcotics Lt. Lloyd Jones says that while prostitution happens all over Birmingham, the Woodlawn community has been an area of concern.

Al.com reports that officers targeted prostitution along First Avenue North in the Woodlawn area during the four-day "Operation Red Light," which began Monday.

Police said the women, and sometimes men, sell sex for as little as $5.
