MUSCLE SHOALS — Trailing by double digits, Muscle Shoals mounted a fourth-quarter comeback and survived another by Russellville in a 64-60 win in Class 5A, Area 16 boys high school basketball Friday night.
The Trojans found themselves down 13 points in the final period before making a rally thanks to three consecutive 3-pointers. Muscle Shoals (12-5, 3-1) took the lead with 3:30 to play and expanded it to a 10-point margin with 1:30 remaining.
Russellville rallied, as Will Bostick hit two 3-pointers, but the Trojans were able to hang on. Mikey Bailey led Muscle Shoals with 23 points, while Debo Reeder added 15 and LeDamian Stanford 12.
Bostick’s game-high 26 points led Russellville.
n Lauderdale County 54, Sheffield 52: Lauderdale County overcame an 18-point first-half deficit to shock Sheffield.
Jacob Newton hit a 3-pointer with 55 seconds left to give Lauderdale County the lead, and Sheffield missed a shot at the buzzer.
Drew Newton and Jacob Liles led Lauderdale County (10-7) with 19 points.
Shaquille Carroll led Sheffield with 12 points.
n Phil Campbell 50, Red Bay 47: Phil Campbell clinched the Class 2A, Area 12 title with the win. The Bobcats took a 43-36 lead after the three quarters and held on.
Red Bay (7-10, 3-2) missed a tying 3-point attempt off the front of the rim at the buzzer.
Skeeter Benford led Phil Campbell with 17 points while Ben Stancil scored 15 for the Bobcats. Michael Ramirez (15) and Ben Hubbard (10) scored in double digits for Red Bay.
n Colbert Heights 62, Cherokee 40: Colbert Heights closed the game on a 24-5 run to pull away.
Kaleb Suggs led Colbert Heights (11-6) with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Heath Olive scored 20 and Bryson Smith 13. Dylan Harris’ 13 points led Cherokee, and Jake Roberson added 11.
n Collinwood 69, Frank Hughes 44: Collinwood (10-7, 2-2) scored 33 points in the second quarter to take control.
Ethan Butler scored a team-high 20 points for Collinwood.
n Decatur Heritage 64, Waterloo 55: Waterloo wilted against the Decatur Heritage press defense in the second quarter, as a slew of turnovers led to the Cougars being out-scored 21-8 in the period.
Dylan Guthrie led all scorers with 18 points for Waterloo (7-13, 2-5), while Wayne Darby (17) and Chase Hollis (12) also scored in double digits.
n Rogers 58, Colbert County 53: Colbert County led 42-31 after three quarters before being out-scored 27-11 in the fourth.
Rogers press defense forced a slew of Indians turnovers, while Caleb Morrow hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 of his team-high 19 points in the final period.
Jonah Casteel was Colbert County’s only double-digit scorer with 26 points.
n Shoals Christian 69, Covenant Christian 40: Shoals Christian outscored Covenant Christian 23-8 in the first quarter in an easy win.
Matthew Russ led the Flame (9-9) with 13 points, while Devan Traglia and Will Bishop added 10 each.
San Griffin (13) and Quentin Nollen (11) scored in double figures for the Eagles.
n Belgreen 74, Hackleburg 40: Belgreen (17-2) out-scored Hackleburg 22-2 in the first quarter and 22-5 in the third while cruising to a win.
Chaney Simmons (13), Caleb Mitchell (12) and Jake Tittle (10) scored in double digits for the Bulldogs.
n Brooks 46, Wilson 38: Brooks jumped out to a 16-3 first-quarter lead it never relinquished.
Brady Bedingfield led all scorers with 15 points, while Skyler Beck added 12 for the Lions (14-5, 3-1 Class 4A, Area 16).
Austen Oakley’s 11 points led Wilson (2-16, 1-4).
n Perry County 70, Wayne County 47: Austin Rice sank five 3s and scored 21 points, but it wasn’t enough for Wayne County (8-9).
Cannon Rhodes tied Rice for the game-high with 21 points for Perry County, which out-scored the Wildcats 35-17 in the second half.
Peyton Mathis added 16 points for Wayne County.
n Deshler 72, Central 55: JuJu Donley scored a game-high 16 points for Deshler, which outscored Central 44-22 in the second and third quarters to pull away.
Ricardo Carter added 14 points for the Tigers.
Zachary Williams’ 15 points paced Central.
Girls varsity
n Russellville 53, Muscle Shoals 31: Amber Eilliott had a double-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots, as Russellville dominated the boards, 39-19.
Haley Smith (12) and Ayanna McCullough (10) also scored in double figures for the Golden Tigers (11-3), who outscored the Trojans 15-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Briana Hillman led all scorers with 19 points for Muscle Shoals (4-11).
n Red Bay 47, Phil Campbell 38: Hannah Scored scored 13 of her game-high 21 points in the first half, as Red Bay amassed their largest lead, 32-16, at halftime.
Jade Ezzell added 10 points for the Tigers (16-2, 5-0), who can clinch the Class 2A, Area 12 title Monday at Sulligent.
Ciara Harvill led Phil Campbell with 11 points.
n Tharptown 66, Phillips 31: Tharptown (15-5) held Phillips to 11 points in the first half, as it improved to 8-0 in Class 1A, Area 13.
Danielle Creasy scored a game-high 16 points for the Wildcats, while Kassy Baker and Camri Sears added 13 each.
n Hackleburg 58, Belgreen 52: Katlyn Adams sank five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 23 points for Hackleburg.
Ashley Keplinger (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Kristen Camp (10 points, 11 rebounds) each had a double-double for the Panthers.
Erica Smith sank four 3s and finished with 18 points to lead Belgreen (8-11), which couldn’t overcome a 32-19 hafltime deficit.
n Wilson 70, Brooks 56: Deanna Thompson scored a game-high 27 points for Brooks, but it wasn’t enough.
Ciarra Edwards’ 22 points led Wilson, and Brittany Gooch added 10 for the Warriors (9-11, 2-3 Class 4A, Area 16), who out-scored the Lions 24-9 in the fourth quarter.
n Wayne County 49, Perry County 31: Kelsey Risner led all scorers with 11 points for Wayne County (10-7, 2-2 district).
The Wildcats led 28-14 at halftime and closed the door with a 13-4 third-quarter run.
No scorer reached double digits for Perry County.
n Cherokee 51, Colbert Heights 39: Briana Goodloe scored a game-high 22 points for Cherokee (6-14).
Samone Armstead added 11 points and Olivia Taylor had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Indians, who led 28-18 at halftime.
Kendra Saint’s 14 points paced Colbert Heights.
n Deshler 62, Central 58: Julia Burton sank six 3s and had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Deshler (12-7) in a Class 4A, Area 16 win.
Jothani Dixon scored a game-high 23 points for the Tigers.
Aleeha Bridges (21), Abby Keener (15) and Brooke Poole (10) scored in double figures for Central.
n Lauderdale County 69, Sheffield 28: Lauderdale County (16-4, 6-0) wrapped up the Class 3A, Area 16 regular-season title, jumping out to a 21-4 lead after the first quarter and coasting from there.
Chatara Cox led all scorers with 17 points for the Tigers, while Emma Wallen added 12. Nyesha Ricks led Sheffield with 11 points.
n Collinwood 42, Frank Hughes 28: Collinwood (14-3, 4-0) ran out to a 20-6 first-quarter lead in an easy win.
Ashley Haddock’s 18 points led Collinwood.
n Rogers 53, Colbert County 39: Morgan Killen scored 18 points and Rogers broke on top 22-7 early to beat Colbert County.
Liz Noceda scored 24 points in the loss.
