RUSSELLVILLE — Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said the vital role residents play in law enforcement was evident in events that led officers to 30 methamphetamine labs and the arrests of four people.
Oliver said a call from a local resident led deputies to the labs.
Four people, including two couples, are in the Franklin County Jail on a variety of drug-related charges including manufacturing methamphetamine.
Those arrested include Monica Leeann Young, 31, 146 Duncan Farm Road, Russellville; her husband, Jeffrey Shane Hargett, 35, same address; Addie Michelle Oliver, 36, 458 Pace Lane, Spruce Pine; and her husband, John Grady Oliver, 34, same address.
They are in Franklin County Jail without bail after deputies reported finding 30 methamphetamine labs in the Rockwood community where Hargett and Young live.
Deputies said the Olivers had been living at the address for the past two months.
Young is charged with 20 counts of second-degree unlawful manufacturing a controlled substance, one county of first-degree unlawful manufacturing a controlled substance, one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and 10 counts of attempted second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance.
Hargett is charged with 20 counts of second-degree unlawful manufacturing a controlled substance, one count of first-degree unlawful manufacturing a controlled substance, one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and six counts of attempted second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance.
Addie Oliver is charged with 20 counts of second-degree unlawful manufacturing a controlled substance, one count of first-degree unlawful manufacturing a controlled substance, one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and six counts of attempted second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance.
John Oliver is charged with 20 counts of second-degree unlawful manufacturing a controlled substance, one count of first-degree unlawful manufacturing a controlled substance and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Without the public’s help, we would not have been able to make these arrests,” the sheriff said.
Investigators said all of the labs were found within a half-mile of each other on Duncan Farm Road and Franklin 36 in the Rockwood community, which is between Russellville and Belgreen.
Sheriff Oliver said most of the remains of the portable ‘one pot’ labs were thrown on the side of the road.
“And in almost every one, there were still chemicals inside the bottles, and that could be very volatile,” he said.
Authorities said a resident found the labs and called law enforcement.
The sheriff said information developed after the labs were found led to a search of Hargett’s house on Duncan Farm Road.
“That’s where they found an active lab and all the items needed for manufacturing,” Shannon Oliver said. “It was obvious they had been making a lot of meth and were prepared to make a lot more. Thankfully, we were able to shut down their operation for a while.”
