Russellville holds off Lawrence County

ATHENS — Amber Elliott hit three clutch free throws in the fourth quarter as Russellville successfully held off Lawrence County 38-34 in the Class 5A, Area 16 tournament Thursday night.

Russellville (21-7) will play Athens at 7 p.m. on Saturday for the area championship.

In a game that was tied at 30 after three quarters,

Russellville outscored the Red Devils 8-4 in the final quarter.

Ayanna McCullough led Russellville with 16 points. Elliott finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Mackenzie Hill topped Lawrence County with 9 points.

n Athens 69, Muscle Shoals 48: Athens opened an 18-point halftime lead on the way to a berth in the championship game.

Destiney Bailey and Destiny Maclin combined for 31 points for the Eagles (20-10), who led 39-21 at the break.

Shana Sherrod led Muscle Shoals with 18 points. Ardayzha Reeder added 10

Class 2A, Area 12

n Red Bay 41, Phil Campbell 30: Locked in a tight game for three quarters, top-seed Red Bay finally pulled away from Phil Campbell in the fourth quarter to reach Saturday’s championship game.

Hannah Sharp scored a game-high 16 points and the Tigers used a 13-4 run in the final quarter to finally subdue the Bobcats.

Ciara Harville led Phil Campbell with 10 points.

Red Bay led 28-26 after three quarters in a game that was close until the fourth quarter.

Class 1A, Area 16

n Covenant Christian 58, Shoals Christian 32: Anna Claire Noblit scored 36 points to lead the Eagles into Saturday’s championship game against R.A. Hubbard.

Noblit, only a sophomore, hit 8 3-pointers as the Eagles (16-6) opened a 34-14 halftime lead.

Lacey Lindley paced Shoals Christian with 17 points.

n R.A. Hubbard 58, Decatur Heritage 36: Alex Gholston poured in a game-high 27 points as the Class 1A, No. 1 Chiefs cruised past Decatur Heritage in the Area 16 semifinals.

Tournament host R.A. Hubbard advances to face Covenant Christian in the Area 16 title game Saturday night.

Oresha Sherrod and Zena Harris added 10 points each for the Chiefs.

Maddie Vinton led Decatur Heritage with 15 points.

Class 1A, Area 13

n Tharptown 51, Vina 30: Kamri Sears scored 13 of her game-high 15 points in the second and third quarters at Tharptown took control in a win against Vina.

The Wildcats (19-9) will play Belgreen in Saturday’s championship game.

Tharptown led 8-5 after the first quarter before Sears went to work. When the third quarter ended, the Wildcats were comfortably ahead 41-20. Sears was the only player for either team in double figures.

n Belgreen 50, Hackleburg 43: Erica Smith returned from an early injury to score seven points in the fourth quarter and Bridget Thompson hit a key 3-pointer as Belgreen rallied past Hackleburg.

Hackleburg led 38-33 after three quarters before the Bulldogs (11-15) rallied.

Thompson scored 17 points to lead Belgreen while Laken Bragwell added 15 points. Smith finished with 11.

Ashley Keplinger led Hackleburg (19-8) with 18 points. Kristen Camp added 12.
