Two men police have been trying to locate for almost a week for their involvement in a Sunday afternoon shooting are now in custody, authorities said.
Eric Lashawn Hamilton, 22, 425 Winona St., Florence, and Carlos Raynard Anderson, 25, 2202 Maple Ave., Florence, are both charged with attempted murder, first-degree robbery and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, police said Friday.
Florence police detective Kevin Jackson said they are accused of shooting a 37-year-old Florence man. He said the shooting took place Sunday afternoon outside a residence on Duncan Avenue near Randolph Street.
Jackson said Anderson and Hamilton were identified by the man who was shot. He said arrest warrants were issued for the two men and members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force located them on Friday afternoon.
Police said Anderson was arrested at a residence on Alabama 20 near the Tennessee state line. Hamilton was found at a residence in Timberline Apartments, Tuscumbia. Both were taken into custody without incident, police said.
Reports indicate the shooting victim was a passenger in a car that stopped on Duncan Avenue and was approached by Anderson.
“He was talking with Anderson, and Hamilton runs up to the car, pulls out a gun and shoots him,” Jackson said.
Reports indicate the man was shot once with a small caliber pistol. The injuries were to his shoulder and chest. The man also was robbed.
Jackson said the victim was flown to Huntsville after he was driven to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital.
“Apparently, this was something between the three men that had been going on for a few weeks,” Jackson said. He declined to go into details as to a possible motive.
Anderson and Hamilton were in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on Friday without bail.
