ANNISTON (AP) — The Republican leader of the state Senate has formed a nonprofit organization to support a new state law providing private school tax credits.
Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh of Anniston told The Anniston Star that the goal of the Foundation for Accountability in Education is to educate the public about the new Alabama Accountability Act. The group has set up a website and started running radio ads. The ads tout the law's support from groups such as the Heritage Foundation and Alabama Policy Institute.
The state teachers' organization, the Alabama Education Association, is suing Marsh and three other legislators over the new law. Its suit argues that the Legislature violated its own operating rules and the open meetings law when approving the legislation last month.
