RUSSELLVILLE — Two Russellville men, including one who was shot, have been indicted in connection with the robbery of another man in April.

Courthouse officials said Johnny Thomas Borden, 24, 100 Westside Plaza, Apartment 362, Russellville, has been indicted on charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree assault, while the man Borden reportedly shot during the robbery, Mark Cooley, 51, Westside Plaza, Apartment 324, Russellville, was indicted for first-degree robbery.

Authorities said Cooley is accused of setting up the robbery of a 20-year-old Russellville man that happened April 7.

The robbery, according to Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett, happened at Cooley’s apartment on Clay Avenue.

Investigators said Borden is accused of entering the apartment and using a gun to rob the 20-year-old man who was visiting Cooley.

Russellville police investigator Sgt. Joe Hargett said Cooley was shot about 45 minutes after the robbery happened. The reported robbery victim returned to the apartment to retrieve his cellphone after the robbery.

Joe Hargett said Borden was still inside the residence when the robbery victim and a friend of his returned to the house.

“They came in and saw Borden still there, wearing the black ski mask he had on during the robbery and they started fighting in the kitchen,” Joe Hargett said.

He said Borden fired the shotgun at them but didn’t hit them. He said the shotgun blast went through the wall and struck Cooley, who was in the living room.”

Cooley was shot in the stomach with a .20-gauge shotgun, police said.

Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said Borden and Cooley and could be placed on the December trial docket.
