BIRMINGHAM - University of North Alabama junior third baseman Andrew Almon has been named Gulf South Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
A native of Florence, Almon hit .667 to lead UNA’s offense in its 2-1 week.
He had multiple hits in each of UNA's three contests. Almon went 6-for-9 at the plate, drove in two runs, scored three runs and drew two walks while recording a .750 on-base percentage.
He started the week, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored in an 8-5 win over Montevallo. He then led the Lions in a two-game split with Missouri Western, going 4-for-7 in two games with two RBI. Almon drove in the team’s lone run in a 4-1 loss in the opener.
UNA is 8-2 overall heading into its first road game this afternoon at Auburn-Montgomery.
