SHEFFIELD -- Police are looking for a Colbert County man they described as being armed and dangerous after a woman was robbed and stabbed Thursday night.
Sheffield police detective Bobby McCalpin said Labarags Madden, 29, whose last known address was in Leighton, is wanted for attempted murder and robbery.
Madden is wanted in connection with an incident that sent a 47-year-old Sheffield woman to the hospital suffering from stab wounds and cuts, police said.
Madden is described as a black man, about 6 feet tall and weighing 272 pounds. He has short black hair and two tear-drop tattoos under his right eye, McCalpin said.
McCalpin said the stabbing occurred around 7:45 p.m. on 21st Street in Southeast Sheffield.
"They had been at a residence in Tuscumbia and the woman, who knew Madden through a friend, was giving him a ride," McCalpin said. "While they were riding he changed where he wanted to go and tried to get her to pull down a gravel road. When she wouldn't, he pulled out a knife and wanted her money."
McCalpin said when the woman told him she didn't have money, Madden began stabbing her.
"The only way she got him to stop was when she told him she had a gun and reached under the seat of the car for the gun," McCalpin said. "At that point he got out of the car and ran off."
McCalpin said the woman was taken to Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield.
McCalpin said Madden took some of the woman's items.
"We don't know which direction he was running, so we're asking the public to watch out for him and if he is seen to call 911," McCalpin said.
Anyone knowing anything about Madden’s whereabouts is asked to call 911, Sheffield police at 256-383-1771 or Shoals Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
