You Said It
  • I say arm all teachers, all superintendents, all coaches and possibly some students.”

  • There are several remote islands in the Philippines that no one lives on. Why can’t we take some of these hardened criminals, and some that are not so hardened, and put them on one of those islands? Instead of trying to keep them inside of a prison, just let them fend for themselves. If they kill somebody, that’s just where they need to be, not in a prison where they’re fed three meals a day and taken care of.”

  • The new license commissioner, William Smith, should consider instituting a courtesy class for the employees in his department. When attempting to get a new car tag, I was forced to wait several minutes even though there were no other customers. Then the employee was very curt and just plain rude. If she is so miserable in the job, she should seek other employment. Being civil and courteous costs nothing and the public deserves common courtesy.”

  • It would be nice to have a AT&T telephone book that you could see the numbers and the names in without having to get an extremely strong magnifying glass. I wish that that could be done. It’s even too small to use for someone with good eyes to see.”

  • President Obama’s family is protected by people that carry automatic weapons with a whole lot more rounds than 30. His family is no more important than mine. Why should he be able to have somebody to protect his family and I can’t protect mine the same way? I’m the protector of my family and I should be able to carry the same kind of weapons that protects his family. Just because he is the president doesn’t mean he is better than anybody else.”

  • God bless Michael Darling. My mother ... was at Mitchell-Hollingsworth for six years and she enjoyed him so much. He brought so much love to all those people. She always loved when Michael was coming.”

  • In a recent issue of the TimesDaily, it was interesting to note that 68 percent of the drivers in the Shoals believe they can drive well in bad weather conditions. Coming from an area where snow and ice are measured in feet, drivers soon become accustomed to handing such difficult hazards and drive accordingly. After experiencing Shoals’ drivers during the past few days and in far less demanding circumstances, we have elected to stay indoors until the weather improves.”

  • I can tell you why people are rushing to buy guns. Our government is trying to take away our gun rights, which is in the Constitution that we have a right to bear arms. In nations where guns have been taken away from the people, now they’re being run by dictators, criminals, thugs, you name it.”

  • The NRA’s answer to the terrible tragedies is to lash out at President Obama, calling him an elitist hypocrite. Well, if someone without a background check that’s mentally unstable and has an oozy with cop-killer bullets that can pierce armor can walk in to a gun show and buy it - if we’re trying to curb that and if that’s an elitist, President Obama, I’m joining with you. I’m an elitist, too.”

  • I guess we’re going to have to go back to the old caveman days of using billy clubs and rocks. They don’t want you to shoot a gun, so use a billy club or rock. A club over the head hurts worse than anything. Getting hit in the head with a rock would even be worse. You have to suffer then. So, they can have all those guns if they want them. I don’t need them. I’ve got a billy club.”

  • A couple of days ago I read in the TimesDaily of a survey of 16 countries that the U.S. had the highest rate of people getting killed or hurt with guns. I wonder if any of those countries are where we have to send our soldiers and troops to keep the peace.”

  • It’s an interesting world we live in. We’re banning guns and legalizing drugs.”
