FLORENCE — The towering presence of Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital building is coming down at a rapid pace, now that panels and windows have been removed.
Crews with the Nashville, Tennessee, company in charge of the demolition are taking down rear sections of the building. In addition, the former emergency room entrance, parking deck and pavilion connection to the deck at the front of the hospital are gone.
The demolition will take the roughly 12-acre property back to a greenfield space, which will be zoned residential. No decisions, as yet, have been made as to what to do with the property once the greenfield space is established.
