Lauderdale County Schools officials said their 2023-2024 school calendar reflects the wishes of teachers and staff.
Presented with three calendar options, school system employees selected the version with an Aug. 8 start date for students and nine days built in for teacher professional development.
Teachers will return to the classroom on Aug. 1.
Lauderdale Assistant Superintendent Tim Tubbs said the calendar provides 178 instructional days for students and 187 days for teachers and staff.
"It's a very similar calendar to last year's and was well received by the employees and the board approved it," he said. "It allows for good breaks throughout the year, and I think our school communities will be fine with it."
The calendar allows for a two-day fall break, all the standard holidays and a week at Thanksgiving and two weeks at Christmas.
It has one built-in weather day on April 19.
Graduation is slated for May 24.
Spring break in 2024 is scheduled for March 25-29, and coincides with that of other area schools.
