RUSSELLVILLE — A kindergarten volunteer who had been indicted for inappropriately touching and exposing himself to students pleaded guilty today to sexual abuse of a child, authorities said.

James Lamar Horton, 72, Red Bay, will serve seven years in prison as part of the plea agreement, according to the Franklin County District Attorney's Office. He formally will be sentenced July 29.

Horton was indicted during the March 2018 session of the Franklin County grand jury. He was accused of touching two girls inappropriately, exposing himself to other students and watching a student while she was in the bathroom.

Authorities said the allegations were reported after a student told parents.

Horton was serving as a volunteer member of a foster grandparent program and was assigned to the school's kindergarten. or 256-740-5739. Twitter @TD_BDelinski
