Authorities are still investigating the weekend boat crash in Lauderdale County that killed a mother and her 5-year-old daughter.

Sgt. Chad Pate, Northern District assistant commander for the Alabama Marine Police, said Monday he could not provide any details on the crash at Shoal Creek until the investigation is complete.

Lauren Cowart, 37, and Blakely Cowart, 5, both of Augusta, Georgia, were pronounced dead at the scene, Pate said.

He said they were mother and daughter.

Ross Wooten III, 33, of Muscle Shoals, was seriously injured, and he remains in stable condition, Pate said.

"He is still undergoing treatment for his injuries," Pate said.

Lauderdale County Coroner Butch Tucker said the Saturday night crash, which occurred shortly before 11 p.m., involved a large cabin cruiser and another boat.

Authorities initially did not release the names of the victims because they were from out of state and their family had not been reached.

Nobody in the cabin cruiser was injured. Officials said there was a fourth person on the other boat but he was not injured.

Tucker said the victims died from the trauma caused by the wreck.

George Grabryan, director of the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency, said the crash occurred on Shoal Creek between the bridge and mouth of the Tennessee River.

He said the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Lauderdale EMA, Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office, Killen police and fire departments, Florence Police, and Shoals Ambulance responded to the scene.
