TUSCUMBIA — Police spent the weekend searching for a suspect wanted after a man died from a gunshot wound late Friday night.

Tuscumbia police detective Wes Holland said the shooting happened just after 10 p.m. at Keller Court Apartments. The shooting was the result of a domestic dispute, police said.

The name of the victim has not been released pending the notification of family members, who live outside the area.

Holland said police interviewed witnesses at the scene and believe the shooter to be Gregory Martez Childress, 27, of Tuscumbia.

He said Childress has ties around the Shoals area.

Colbert County Coroner Justin Gasque said the victim was alive when police arrived and was taken to Helen Keller Hospital. He was pronounced dead around 11 p.m.

Gasque said the victim's body will be sent for an autopsy.

Holland asks anyone with information on the whereabouts of Childress to call their local police department, or the Tuscumbia Police Department at 383-3121.
