FLORENCE — Shoals Christian School Athletic Director Kelly Rushing has hired Skyler McFall to be the varsity boys head basketball coach, the school announced Thursday.

The son of longtime Waterloo coach Barry McFall, Skylar McFall is a 2016 Waterloo High graduate and has been a coaching fixture with local area AAU teams.

“I expect him to bring a new direction, culture, and excitement to the basketball program here, and I am looking forward to working with him and his staff,” Rushing said in a press release.


Florence grad Henry makes

freshman All-American list

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU right-handed pitcher Cole Henry was named a second-team freshman All-American Thursday by Perfect Game.

Henry, a Florence High graduate, was 4-2 this season with a 3.39 ERA in 14 appearances (11 starts). He worked 58 1/3 innings, recording 18 walks, 72 strikeouts and a .226 opponent batting average.

He was named to the Freshman All-SEC squad last month in a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Henry was voted to the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional All-Tournament team after throwing five shutout innings June 1 versus Southern Miss, allowing just two hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Florence 10U All-Star team

heads to state tournament

The Florence 10U All-Star baseball team beat Muscle Shoals on Wednesday to win the Cal Ripken district tournament and advance to the state tournament in Mobile.

Beau Hargett and Neel Patel each had five hits for Florence, with Noah Yeager, Miles Warren, Noah Hanback, Austin Klotzbach, Nelson Elliott and Jackson Kelly each adding multiple hits. Hanback earned the win pitching.

The 10U team also beat the 9U team on Tuesday. Miles Warren threw 4 1/3 innings for the win, and Hanback got two outs to finish a shutout.

The team earned wins over Monrovia and Muscle Shoals on Monday. Hargett had four hits and Remington Montgomery multiple RBIs against Monrovia. Against Muscle Shoals, Patel pitched four strong innings and Carter Hamm excelled defensively.

Florence 7U All-Star team

advances to state tourney

The Florence 7U Allstarz beat Monrovia in a best 2 out of 3 tournament on Monday. The Florence 7 year olds will advance to the the State Tournament in Lineville, AL.

Team members include: Rogan Willingham, Trip Fowler, Carson Thompson, Myles Gargis, Parker Holmes, Alex Elliott, Cooper Wilbanks, Jackson Boatwright, Brennan McDonald, Noah Logan, Griffin Campbell and Jasper Hill

The head coach is Warren Fowler.

The assistant coaches are Josh Willingham, Ray Wilbanks and Michael Boatwright.
